Copenhagen, Denmark
wednesday, all the danes had busy scheduled, and it left us with a chance to head into copenhagen to explore. we walked around the downtown area and nyhavn (where the famous row of colorful houses is that everyone photographs). that was nice, and there's a great little walking street where we learned that it's a bad idea for americans to shop in denmark right now. the dollar is in the toilet.
as we cruised through town, we walked throught the palace circle, and eventually found a military fort that is oddly also a tourist center. we walked along that and past a beautiful old church towards the water to see a statue of the little mermaid. it is apparently the statue that inspired the disney animated film. it appeared to be quite a tourist attraction.
afterwards we found a (disappointingly american) cafe and had a quick bite to eat. we stopped mainly to warm up & let bennett stretch his legs. he has had it up to here with the stroller, i think.
we used the subway to get into town, and if you're not aware of it, the subway they've been working on around copenhagen puts all other subways to shame. it's bright & clean, and fast, and runs like clockwork. they're awesome. we took it back to inger's apartment, and hitched a ride with her to sonja & stefan's place for dinner about 10 minutes away. apparently, everything around here is about 10 minutes way.
the halberg's have a great house which stephan put quite a lot of work into. it's got a great simple style to it that is at once clean and cozy. we hung out there for a great dinner which inger had prepared & brought there to serve, and bennett played with their son, villads. we had a great evening which eventually denigrated into a mss of crying sleepy children, so we went back to ingers to go to bed. tomorrow, it's on to dragor!
